Whom the gods would destroy…………..

A famous phrase from at least the times of Rome said; whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.

How applicable is this statement in our time?

It’s happened before, the Latin rendition was; Quos Deus vult perdere prius dementat, an opinion that’s been around for centuries.

Or as another translation puts it; those whom God wishes to destroy, he first deprives of reason.

Perhaps, you prefer the Greek rendition, Sophocles said; Evil appears as good in the minds of those whom god leads to destruction.

Basically He allows people to descend into madness so they bring on their own destruction.

The ancients appreciated the sentiment in all its forms yet we’ve lost the understanding of its significance.

There is a spirit of madness and virtual insanity upon so many in all nations right now, though; in some it’s much further along than others.

There is a lack of understanding of basic truth and the grasp of reality is tenuous but historically this is what happens before destruction.

This kind of talk is not popular; it’s regarded as depressing and discouraging.

Still, a solid case could be made that the times we are in could be encapsulated by that phrase; whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.

Madness, unreasonableness and fierce senselessness are witnessed almost on a daily basis and people are confused and perplexed.

A verse that parallels with this theme goes by the name of The Great Delusion and reads; ……………Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2:9–12)

It seems like the words of the ancients are aligning with that of prophecy in this hour.

Maybe we have the idea of what this delusion is all wrong, it’s not some specific event in the future that results in a type of mass madness but rather it’s a specific state of mind in the here and now.
