Twitter is watching you on Birdwatch

Like they say you can’t make this stuff up; part satire part tragedy all rolled into one.

Twitter has taken a leaf out of George Orwell’s instruction manual 1984 with the launch of its new app Birdwatch just Monday past.

Birdwatch allows people to identify information in Tweets they believe is misleading or false, and write notes that provide informative context says Twitter Vice President of Product Keith Coleman.

While Birdwatch will initially be cordoned off to a separate section of Twitter, eventually notes will be visible on Tweets for the global Twitter audience when there is consensus (from a broad and diverse set of contributors? …… yeah right )

Twitter’s stand-alone Birdwatch feature will at first only be available to a small set of users, largely on a first-come, first-served basis.

High-profile people or traditional fact-checkers will not be given priority apparently, but users will have to use an account tied to a real phone number and email address.

Demos of the product showed a separate area in which tweets are discussed and rated in a format that combines elements of both Reddit’s and Wikipedia’s moderation tools.

Plugged as fact checking feature to combat misinformation (and disinformation) they fail to mention this ‘fact check’ is from a liberal angle so it will lead to the gagging of everyone else.

Why are they so afraid of misinformation; individuals are capable of embarking on their own fact check where there’s any doubt, they don’t need a board of fact checkers to decide what’s true and what isn’t, this is not a forum for five year-olds so what gives?

Individuals checking facts is exactly what they afraid of, conformity is the name of the game where everyone thinks the same way never questioning what they are told.

Playing censor is likely to appeal to a certain type of person; easy-going people wouldn’t be bothered they also not threatened by facts or different perspectives.

Birdwatch users will be able to flag tweets from a dropdown menu in Twitter’s main interface.

Twitter does anticipate some users linking directly to Birdwatch discussions underneath high-profile and controversial tweets, just as some users would link out to fact-checking sites.

Participants in Birdwatch are able to rate others’ notes, as a mechanism to prevent bad-faith users from gaming the system and falsely labeling true tweets false.

Meanwhile, word has it that Mark Dice, a You tuber and conservative pundit was banned from Twitter for his facial expressions????

Actor, comedian and conservative in the red MAGA cap, Terrence Williams had better watch out.

He’s famous for his Twitter videos where he pans unhinged liberals not with words but with incredulous, comical faces while slurping milkshakes.

Face crimes are a real thing in an almost unreal world Terrence.

Come to think of it although his account is still active he’s been pretty subdued since Joe Biden’s inauguration

Instagram still allows funny videos with a political bent so he’s there ….…. at least for now.
