The Tonga Volcanic Eruption is a Strange One Say Scientists.
The Tonga volcano eruption which caused a tsunami a couple of days ago is proving to be a strange one all right.
Afterwards, scientists noticed that waves rang out through the atmosphere and produced a series of ripples; most unlike anything seen before.
As previous volcanic eruptions have not produced these signals; scientists are stumped. It really is unique.
These waves reached from the ocean surface to the ionosphere and probably circled the globe several times.
The scientists postulate that a messy pile of hot gasses in the upper atmosphere could have kicked off the waves but they haven’t witnessed this before.
“This instrument has been operating for something like 20 years now and we have never seen such nice concentric wave patterns,” one said.
Another said the eruption might have been unique in causing these waves because it happened very quickly relative to other eruptions.
“This event seems to have been over in minutes, but it was explosive and it’s that impulse that is likely to kick off some strong gravity waves. “
Some think the effects of the eruption will linger and might even have an effect on weather patterns as far away as Europe.
This might be electro- magnetic in nature? There was a huge solar filament which hurtled its way towards earth just about the same time as this volcano kicked off.
Meanwhile the Tonga volcanic eruption is reported as the worst in thirty years.
The devastating tsunami that occurred in its wake was also unusual as most are triggered by underwater quakes not volcanoes; with the odds on the latter at 5 percent.
