Philosophy Prof Quits; blames it on Diversity and Inclusion
A professor of critical thought at Portland State University, Peter Boghossian, resigned suddenly last month, and dropped a bombshell. He claimed it was impossible for him to teach in a climate where diversity and exclusion; got to rule the roost.
An atheist, Boghossian who wrote the work A Manual for Creating Atheists, is no longer teaching.
Here’s a direct quote from him.
The University basically created conditions which didn’t allow me to teach what I was hired to do.
The former professor tendered his resignation via an open letter, where he lamented; the university “has transformed a bastion of free inquiry into a social justice factory whose only inputs were race, gender and victimhood; and the only outputs grievance and division.
What a mouthful, nevertheless it is one that speaks for itself.
He expanded further by saying students are not learning to think but rather to parrot the alleged moral certitude of ideologues.
Yes this seems to be the way of things; people who get touchy about certitude in other areas have no such problem with their own ideology.
How is that? In certain aspects of science too, yet what is it that makes them so sure?
It’s not as if they show their work either; they just say that’s the way it is; then redefine terms and make them fit.
Boghossian admits; they have these mechanisms in place in the university to enforce certain speech codes.
Granted it’s not just Portland, although its reputation precedes it, diversity, inclusion and equity departments have sprung up at all American universities; from coast to coast.
Don’t believe me; here’s a selection of university mission statements:
Rutgers: It is core to Rutgers Business School’s mission to be a leader in diversity, inclusion and student success.
Oklahoma State: The goal of this new position is to create a more welcoming environment for students.
California University: At Cal U, we’re cultivating an environment that will advance diversity, equity and inclusion.
And Catholic universities are no exception one Jesuit school even has a Post-Doctoral Diversity Program; dedicated to expanding diversity for professors.
Diversity et al is much more than just an ideology; it’s a lucrative cash cow that rules supreme in the field of higher education.
But wait, this uncritical conditioning has now reached pre-K and kindergarten.
The rise of what many call diversicrats as been occurring for at least the last 15 years. In 2005, magicians Penn and Teller produced an episode on the subject in their then-popular show.
In acerbic tones Penn Jillette remarked; Crushed by one word ― a word that students are brainwashed into repeating like a Hare Krishna chant [six different students say, ‘diversity].
Prager U explains how what it calls the “diversity scam” boils down to an example of the catchphrase follow the money.
And still some naïvely think this is a bottom up rather than a top down development.
But no longer just confined to education, the pseudo-religion of diversity and inclusion has crept into the Church; The U.S. bishops’ conference even has a Culturally Diversity Committee.
But there is plenty of this stuff to go around in protestant circles as well.
